Bought a 1986 Ferrari 328 GTS.

I’ve always wanted a 308 or 328, and I finally pulled the trigger on this 1986 Ferrari 328 GTS from BringATrailer. It screams 1980s with louvers everywhere and pop-up headlights. It’s my first car with a gated manual.

Normally when I think Ferraris, I think bright red, aka resale red or retail red, typically with a black or tan interior. I love this one because it’s the exact opposite. I’d never seen a black over red 328 before, and I love the deep color of the leather.

I won’t be taking this one on any cross-country road trips. It’s only got about 25,000 miles, and honestly, it’s not very comfortable for long road trips. The seating position is rough for tall folks like me, the air conditioner isn’t that strong (not just mine, but all 328s), and it doesn’t have much luggage space.

Plus, low-mileage 328s are appreciating like wildfire. This black 328 GTB recently went for $320,000. Mine won’t be worth that anytime soon – that one was a perfect storm of rarity – but still, I wanna be careful with it.

I don’t plan on modifying it at all other than possibly replacing the Ferrari’s aftermarket CD player with a more period-correct-looking Blaupunkt Bremen. Both this and my recently purchased 944 Turbo are beautiful period pieces: when I get in, they take me straight back to the 1980s. Well, not like *I* was driving either of these cars in the 80s, hahaha. I wasn’t old enough to drive when these cars came out, but I was already a voracious reader of print magazines like Car and Driver and Road & Track.

Love Blaupunkt radios for their aesthetics and generally good quality. The Ferrari is nice too. 🙂
