I tripped while carrying a monitor, and before you could say “banana peel” the top of my humerus bone was smashed:

The surgeons think it broke completely across, but they don’t want to pop me open to do screws or anything – just stuck in a sling for the next month while the bone grows back together. There doesn’t appear to be any muscle or tendon damage.

It’s my left arm, and I’m right handed, so it could be worse. However, this means a sling until early June, and one-handed typing only. So like Ceiling Cat, I’m watching you, but not interacting much online this month.
I’m surprised the pain isn’t worse. I didn’t want to take any painkillers while we taught our training classes this week because I wanted to be 100% mentally sharp, so I taught through the pain with just Tylenol. At this point, I’m used to the pain, so I didn’t even take Tylenol before bed last night. Not the best sleep of my life, but whatever.
I’m really lucky – I can still present and travel, and most of my work this month is training anyway, so the timing is perfect.

Let the onslaught of predictable “humerus/humerous” jokes begin…
Seriously, though, I wish you the best of luck and a speedy recovery, Brent. Next time you trip, make sure to land on something soft. (Or start carrying pillows instead of monitors)
So sorry Brent. I’m guessing that the damage from falling is magnified when you’re tall. Hoping it heals on it’s own and quickly so that you can enjoy the summer!
Thanks guys!
